“Known as the ‘Old City of Santa Luzia,’ records of these ruins date back at least to the 17th century. However, it was in the 19th century that excavations began, becoming more consolidated in the 20th century. [...] It is a remarkable example of fortified settlements in the Northwestern Iberian Peninsula, both in terms of size, urban planning, building typology, and defensive character. [...] This castro settlement had long-term occupation and is one of the best-known and most important for the study of proto-history and Romanization in the Alto Minho region.”
